COVID-19 is forcing us (and fast) to change the way we approach our client relationships. From traditional 'in-person' work, the limitations imposed by the pandemic are pushing us to explore the possibility of supporting our clients online.
For many of us, practitioners and volunteers, this is a quantum leap. To do this effectively and safely, we need to rethink the helping relationship and acquire new tools and strategies to deal with it properly.
The aim of this seminar is to provide helping relationship professionals and volunteers with the skills and tools they need to make an 'online transition' of their work.
Numerous practical activities will be presented to enable a more engaging and effective training experience.
PROGRAMME
1. What is meant by an online helping relationship: various modes of conduct: video-conferencing (Skype, Zoom, etc), telephone, email, messaging services (Whatsapp, Telegram, etc)
2. Practical aspects for managing the online helping relationship: How to make a successful transition from face-to-face to online work
- How to start a new online relationship
- Importance of contract/agreement definition
- How to manage the intermediate stages of the helping relationship and its closure
- How to effectively solve the most common problems
3. Potential of the online helping relationship:
- Online mindfulness-based training courses
- group work (group counselling or personal growth meetings, wellness and health promotion classes, etc.)
- New potential client pools: types and examples
4. Promotion of online counselling and coaching activities
